Messerschmitt Bf 109 The Most Memorable German Fighter Plane

02 Feb

MESSERCHMITT BF 109

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is the most used fighter plane by the German in the Second World War. They were produced extensively during the war and were the most respected fighter planes. The Luftwaffe fighter was produced extensively during the war. Nine different variations of the model by Willy Messerschmitt were used in the war. It is estimated that more than 30000 of these planes were produced in the war.

The fighter was first introduced in the Spanish Civil War. The plane was used by the Spanish Air Force till 1967. The plane was designed in 1920. So the plane remained for service for almost 30 years. Initially the company formed by Dr. Willy Messerchmitt didn’t get great support from the German government. But the situation changed in 1933 when the company of Dr. Willy Messerchmitt called BFW was invited by Luftwaffe for designing sports plane.

The resultant design Bf 108 was actually the predecessor of the 109. It was in action in 1934, February. Even though the flight showed further developments of the fighter plane was not grated to Messerchmitt. Finally Messerchmitt was granted a design of a fighter with no guarantee of a production. The first mode of the Bf 109V-1 was ready in August, 1935. The design of the aircraft was challenging during the period of 1935. It had a low wing with all metal construction monoplanes. The cockpit had a single seat and had a fully enclosed canopy.

Pilots were not too happy in the beginning to use the plane due the closed canopy. The Bf 109V-1 went for its first ride in September 1935. The speed of the aircraft attracted Luftwaffe and that backed up the redesign of the plane. The Bf 109 V-3 was the first to be converted into a fighter plane. Soon the flaws in the design of other aircraft made the Messerschmitt creation to be popular in the war field.

The Development Of German Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe / Sturmvogel

06 Jan

The Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe was the first operational turbojet in the world. This was designed and developed by the Messerschmitt Company. The design was done in the year 1938. It was first flown on July 18, 1942. It was much faster than the existing fighter jets of that period. The development of the jet in large quantities was delayed later due to development problems.

GERMAN MESSERSCHMITT

This was during the period of the Second World War and the bombings by the Allied forces were also behind the inability for further developments. The actual development of the Messerschmitt Me 262 was done in late 1943 after an agreement with Adolf Hitler. He wanted the plane to be primarily designed as a fighter and bomber.

This resulted in the mass production of the aircraft. Messerschmitt Me 262 became the first air jet to be used for war. It was used on July 25, 1944 to attack the British fighter planes for the first. This development of this aircraft resulted in gaining advantage over the Allied forces by the Germans.

It was estimated that more than 1400 Messerschmitt Me 262 were produced during the war. But most of them was not able to be completed into a fully fighter bombers. Only 300 of them were used as fighter planes. Most of them were destroyed in the ground during the bombing by allied forces.

The lack of fuel and spare parts were other problems that affected the Germans during that period. The unavailability of trained pilots to fly the turbo jet also caused problems. But the name will remain in the history as the first operational jet air fighter. It was best air fighter available at that period. The delay in the development due to political disagreements was one reason for the failure of Germans during the war. Its arrival in the war was delayed due to this.
