The Story Of Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Germany Fighter of WWII

20 Mar

FOCKE-WULF FW 190

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-3 was developed from the Jagdgruppe I./JG.51 in the 1942. The fighter used a BMW engine. This engine was a great advantage over the Bf 109’s water-cooled Daimler Benz. The BMW engine was very bulky and acted as a protection for the pilot. The damages during the combat can be sustained for a long time due to the bulkiness of the engine. The tales of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-3 are spread so that it can make a back to back base. Even though the engine was bulky the aircraft could still glide when the engine failed. This allowed belly landing of the plane safe enough. The bulk in the front would clear all obstacles and the pilot could be saved in most cases. One of the difficulties in handling the plane was in the ground clearing.

Proper balance has to be maintained during the take off’s with the tail since the front is too bulky. The large engine in the front also obstructed the view of the pilot. The plane will dig and dip if it is raised to soon. The Fw 190 was ideal for combat in low level situations.

The fighter was not too effective after a height of 20000 feet. The Allied forces had aircrafts effective at higher altitude. Hence the Germans mostly used these aircrafts in the Eastern side. It was loaded with two 7.9mm machine guns and four 20mm cannon and was suitable for the conditions in the East.

The redesign of the older version began in 1937. The designer Focke-Wulf prepared seven models of the plane to Luftwaffe in March 1940. But there were several problems in the design of Fw 190A-0. After several changes the Fw 190 program was finally approved.

The German Bomber Junker Ju 87 Stuka

10 Mar

JUNKER JU 87 STUKA

The Junker Ju 87 Stuka was the greatest threat to the Polish and French during the Second World War. They were known as the dive bombers as they would come down and spot the targets accurately. This was one of the fighter planes that Germany relied mostly. It was used throughout the war. It was estimated that more than 5,700 of these planes were built at that time.

The Junker Ju 87 Stuka did a major role in attacking the Russian tanks for many years. This prevented the Russian to enter from the Eatern border for many years. The German war history says that a pilot named Hans-Ulrich Rudel did serious damage on the allied forces sing the Ju 87 Stuka. It is said that he destroyed a battleship, 519 tanks and more than 200 vehicles using the bomber.

The dive and drop technology was implemented in the Second World War. The process of diving will help to aim at the targets properly. The complex problem of aiming from a high altitude and calculating the target from the forward motion and turbulent air was avoided using this technique. The expertise of the pilot is important in performing the operation. The pilot has to pull the air craft out after the dive. Dive breaks are another concept introduced during this period to prevent the air craft from gaining excess speed. The pilot has to be highly trained and motivated for performing this operation. The prototype of the plane was not good looking. It had the look of a gull wing plane. But the flaps and ailerons were sufficient enough to provide good control in the air. The gear struts were aerodynamically designed. The pilot had a good view since the fuselage ran down from the cockpit.

The German Alpha Jet Strike Aircraft

01 Mar

JET STRIKE AIRCRAFT

A fighter aircraft is primarily designed for air to air military combat. This German striker is a beauty of a fighter craft designed in 1977. This was actually built in collaboration with the French and the Germans. The German used it as a trainer aircraft. But the Germans modified it to fully equipped fighter aircraft. The German Fiat G.9 was replaced by the Germans for the Alpha Jet.

This is a twin engine aircraft that has got a normal swept for the wings. The advantage of this aircraft is not the technological advancements. This is one of the cheapest aircraft now available. They are easy to maintain and is suitable small scale military combat. The aircraft is primarily indented to strike the ground target by dropping bombs. A cheap air craft is ideal for small intensity military operations.

The power of bigger and technologically advanced aircraft like Tornado will be wasted in such conditions. The Dassault-Breguet/Dornier Alpha Jet is designed to be used as a secondary attack force. The old trainer version was developed by the French. The design of the aircraft was done back in 91960. Fighter version of the Alpha Jet by the Germans is exclusively used as a fighter. It has only a single seat capacity and ability to carry weapons.

The load of the weapons cannot suit to the modern fighter planes. But that are easy to handle and maintain. Countries in the Africa and Middle East have purchased a lot of Alpha Jets from the Germans. The length of the plane is 13.23 m and height is 4.33 m. The aircraft will weigh only 3115 kg without arming. iT can hold the maximum of 8000Kg and fly up to a height of 15000m. The speed of the fighter is also ideal since it can fly up to Mach 0.86

Messerschmitt Bf 109 The Most Memorable German Fighter Plane

02 Feb

MESSERCHMITT BF 109

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is the most used fighter plane by the German in the Second World War. They were produced extensively during the war and were the most respected fighter planes. The Luftwaffe fighter was produced extensively during the war. Nine different variations of the model by Willy Messerschmitt were used in the war. It is estimated that more than 30000 of these planes were produced in the war.

The fighter was first introduced in the Spanish Civil War. The plane was used by the Spanish Air Force till 1967. The plane was designed in 1920. So the plane remained for service for almost 30 years. Initially the company formed by Dr. Willy Messerchmitt didn’t get great support from the German government. But the situation changed in 1933 when the company of Dr. Willy Messerchmitt called BFW was invited by Luftwaffe for designing sports plane.

The resultant design Bf 108 was actually the predecessor of the 109. It was in action in 1934, February. Even though the flight showed further developments of the fighter plane was not grated to Messerchmitt. Finally Messerchmitt was granted a design of a fighter with no guarantee of a production. The first mode of the Bf 109V-1 was ready in August, 1935. The design of the aircraft was challenging during the period of 1935. It had a low wing with all metal construction monoplanes. The cockpit had a single seat and had a fully enclosed canopy.

Pilots were not too happy in the beginning to use the plane due the closed canopy. The Bf 109V-1 went for its first ride in September 1935. The speed of the aircraft attracted Luftwaffe and that backed up the redesign of the plane. The Bf 109 V-3 was the first to be converted into a fighter plane. Soon the flaws in the design of other aircraft made the Messerschmitt creation to be popular in the war field.

The Development Of German Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe / Sturmvogel

06 Jan

The Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe was the first operational turbojet in the world. This was designed and developed by the Messerschmitt Company. The design was done in the year 1938. It was first flown on July 18, 1942. It was much faster than the existing fighter jets of that period. The development of the jet in large quantities was delayed later due to development problems.

GERMAN MESSERSCHMITT

This was during the period of the Second World War and the bombings by the Allied forces were also behind the inability for further developments. The actual development of the Messerschmitt Me 262 was done in late 1943 after an agreement with Adolf Hitler. He wanted the plane to be primarily designed as a fighter and bomber.

This resulted in the mass production of the aircraft. Messerschmitt Me 262 became the first air jet to be used for war. It was used on July 25, 1944 to attack the British fighter planes for the first. This development of this aircraft resulted in gaining advantage over the Allied forces by the Germans.

It was estimated that more than 1400 Messerschmitt Me 262 were produced during the war. But most of them was not able to be completed into a fully fighter bombers. Only 300 of them were used as fighter planes. Most of them were destroyed in the ground during the bombing by allied forces.

The lack of fuel and spare parts were other problems that affected the Germans during that period. The unavailability of trained pilots to fly the turbo jet also caused problems. But the name will remain in the history as the first operational jet air fighter. It was best air fighter available at that period. The delay in the development due to political disagreements was one reason for the failure of Germans during the war. Its arrival in the war was delayed due to this.
